ATHLETE FIELD OF TCS AMSTERDAM MARATHON STRENGTHENED

The athletes field of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon has been further strengthened. Mule Wasihun, Gideon Kipketer, Laban Korir, Kaan Özbilen and Jonathan Korir will start on Sunday 21 October. Earlier organizer Le Champion already announced that world toppers Lawrence Cherono and Kenenisa Bekele will make their appearance. With the addition of this five, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon has a strong and broad field of participants.

Mule Wasihun is an Ethiopian talent full of rich promise, Mule is gradually establishing himself in the upper echelons of global marathon running. In 2017 he enjoyed a highly-satisfying year, placing second in the Dubai Marathon in 2:06:46 before trimming five seconds from his marathon PB to run a slick 2:05:39 for fourth in Amsterdam. Last yeas he became fourth in TCS Amsterdam Marathon (2.05.39).

Gideon Kipketer is among an exciting crop of athletes who could represent the next generation of marathon stars. His rising status in global marathoning was further cemented earlier this year as Gideon dismantled his previous PB by more than two minutes to record 2:05:51 for second in the Tokyo Marathon behind former world record holder Wilson Kipsang.

With a near decade long career on the roads, Laban Korir had developed into an accomplished marathon performer. In 2016 his career stepped up to a new level as he finished second in Paris and then fourth in Amsterdam, stopping the clock in an impressive PB of 2:05:54. His consistent streak continued as he placed third in the 2017 Rotterdam Marathon (2:06:25) before Laban returned to the Dutch port city in April to finish fourth in 2:05:58.

Kaan Özbilen is a Turkish long-distance runner with a best time of 2.06.10. In 2016 Özbilen won silver in Amsterdam during the EC half marathon. Jonathan Korir is a debutant with high expectations.

The current course record of 2.05.09 is in the name of Lawrence Cherono, walked last year. The Kenyan is of course keen to keep the record in his name.
